Owairaka Primary Information Literacy Plan
Hi everyone
In our Library staff meeting this term I fed back from the 1st day of our course and everyone now has clear ideas about Information Literacy and where our school should be going with it. We have a rough draft of our Information Literacy Planner and the Library team are meeting next week to finalise that and also to start writing our IL policy and whole school plan. We are having a whole school Inquiry focus this term in our PD so now is a good time to look at Information Literacy.

You have homework!
This is a practical exercise to help you to continue your strategy within your school. Please feed back your decisions (in general at least- no need to name individuals) on the blog. (Go to "Posting" and then "Create".
1. Decide on some strategic allies within the school, people who will have an interest in information literacy and are likely to be able to work with you (and who you may be able to bring to the next session on May 27.)
2. Which readings on the blog will you share with them? For one of those readings, what are the key points you would like to communicate to the school?
3. With those strategic allies, share and develop the actions on the Information Literacy Action Planner. Share 2-3 ideas or actions on the blog.
4. Think about and sketch out a staff meeting that you would like to run in your school with your team (and with Adviser help if you would like it), that will be a first step. The staff meeting could be before or after Day 2 of the course.
5. Think aloud, share queries, thoughts, insights, and also use the comment button to engage in discussion with others on the blog.
Day 2 will begin with review, update, discussion. As preparation for Day 2 please complete the review sheet before you come.
Email Alice or Rob, or your local adviser, if you wish to discuss issues .

Information Literacy Day 1
Course aim:
- to introduce the concept of information literacy
- to link information literacy to the NZ Curriculum
- to explore a range of information literacy process models
- to clarify the role of the school library in supporting the school's information literacy programme
Course content:
- Introduce Information Literacy as a concept, and why it is a critical literacy
- Look at what recent NZ research reveals
- Identify skills which students need to develop
- Look at a range of information and inquiry process models
- Explore how your school library can act as an agency for change
- Make it happen- next steps
- Where to find resources to support information literacy programmes
- Exploring the blog
Preparation for Day 1:
Look out the resources (left) which should be in your school, and check out the websites (left): familiarise yourself with them.
